Choosing to take initiative during her semester break, Toh Huai Yu (Hailey) began her internship with Great Vision with clear expectations: to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector while exploring her future career direction. Over time, that decision has grown into a meaningful and insightful journey.
Hailey mentioned that she particularly appreciated the autonomy given and the exposure to different experiences.
She actively contributed to project management from planning to execution, including timelines, site visits, stakeholder coordination, event support, and post-event reporting. She also assisted with interviews and documentation for eduCARE students while engaging with beneficiaries and volunteers.

Having been an equity scholarship recipient herself, Hailey carries a strong desire to give back to the community. “Being given opportunities in life has shown me how powerful it is to create opportunities for others,” she reflects. This personal experience has shaped her perspective and instilled an interest to pursue a career in charity and social impact work, especially in addressing educational inequity.

Overall, Hailey describes her internship with Great Vision as “rewarding”, not only for skills and experiences gained, but also for the growing sense of purpose and clarity about the impact she hopes to create in the years ahead. She mentioned that working with Great Vision reinforces her commitment to a career in non-profit organisations focusing on education.
