VOLUNTEERS BRING UNDERPRIVILEGED FAMILIES TO GROCERIES SHOPPING

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 November 2014: Through their Shopping Buddy Program, a group of volunteers from Great Vision Charity Association acted as shopping buddy when they invited 10 underprivileged and hardcore poor families to a groceries shopping outing at the Aeon Big Hypermarket in The Sphere Bangsar South. On the morning of the outing, the volunteers met up with the respective families at their homes to pick them up and personally chauffeured them to the shopping mall in the comfort of the volunteers’ respective cars.

The Shopping Buddy Program is a program conducted by the association on the third Sunday of each month, where 10 selected underprivileged families will be invited for a groceries shopping session with volunteers from the association. RM100 cash vouchers would be handed out to each selected families, which is hoped could help ease the burden of the families. It is a program that is run by the Great Vision Charity Association in collaboration with other partner association members so that they could influence more members to act as volunteers for charitable events.

During the shopping session, volunteers were attached to each of the families, and they were seen busy helping the families look for groceries items and comparing prices to get the best deals. Some were also seen helping out the families to calculate their total sum of purchase. After the shopping session, the families were invited to a sumptuous luncheon session at the Chicken Rice Shop with the volunteers, before being chauffeured back to their homes.

Pn.Munah Binti Din, who was one of the beneficiaries, commented that she never thought there was actually a charity group in Malaysia that provides this meaningful support for the needy. It was her first time in life which a group of volunteers bring her out for grocery shopping. In fact, it has been a few months since she was able to go for groceries shopping, and she appreciated the support provided by this charity group.
