Three students supported under the Didik-Kasih EduCare Program recently carried out a simple yet impactful community outreach activity called “Healthy Hands, Happy Heart” at Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PPDK) Jalan San Peng. The session focused on engaging children with special needs through hands-on, sensory-based activities.
Organised by Amalia, Paisal, and Azirah beneficiaries of our Didik-Kasih EduCare Program, this event was part of their community service project. As part of their journey with Didik-Kasih, students are encouraged to carry out small-scale initiatives that benefit the community.
The half-day event involved 43 special needs children and 10 volunteers. Activities such as clay modelling and shirt painting were chosen for their therapeutic and developmental value, especially in supporting motor skills and sensory stimulation. Volunteers worked closely with each child to ensure a fun and inclusive experience for all.
In addition to the activities, the team also handed over donations such as groceries and motor skills play sets, including sensory mats that the centre can continue to use during therapy sessions. These items were made possible through the students’ own fundraising efforts, with support from the association.
“We’re glad to see the students planning something so thoughtful and hands-on,” said Miera, a representative from GVCA. “It’s not always about large-scale program, a small, focused efforts like these can go a long way, especially when they’re done with care.”
The Didik-Kasih EduCare Program aims to support tertiary students from underprivileged backgrounds through financial aid, mentoring, and opportunities to give back. While the students take the lead, the association provides guidance and encouragement along the way.
Staff and caregivers from PPDK Jalan San Peng shared positive feedback about the event, expressing appreciation for the time and attention given to the children.
Persatuan Harapan Mulia is thankful for the opportunity to support young people who are learning to balance their own challenges with the needs of others. We look forward to seeing more youth-led projects that quietly make a difference where it matters most.
