New Year Shopping with Underprivileged Families

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 December 2016: Eleven underprivileged families from PPR Kampung Muhibbah benefited from Great Vision Charity Association, Shopping Buddy Program recently. The Shopping Buddy Program is a program conducted by the association monthly, where selected underprivileged families were invited for a groceries shopping session to help ease their household burden.

The charity shopping trip was held at Tesco Scott Garden. Volunteers from all walk came together and lend a helping hand in assisting the families throughout the shopping session. Grocery shopping has become a daunting task for some physical disabled and elderly participants. One of the physical disabled participants, Norliah binti Bakar, expressed her gratitude for being selected to join the program. It was a rare opportunity to some of the participants to step foot out of their house due to their inconvenience in movement.

The association representative, Ms Chor Mun Yan stated “These participants came from different poverty background and some household conditions were really worrying during the assessment for selection in this program.”

“We hope to reach out to more needy families and we aim to lessen the household burden of these families.” she said

Besides buying grocery items, some families were also seen to purchase stationaries, school uniforms for their children in preparation of back to school.

After the shopping session, the families were invited to enjoy luncheon at the shopping mall’s foodcourt before being chauffeured back to their homes by the volunteers. One of the volunteers, Ms Tee Kee Shuen described her volunteering experience, “The family that I assisted were very careful of the budget spent on groceries, it made me think twice of being grateful and appreciative for the things I have in life.”
