GIVING A HAND-UP TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES
CHERAS, 20 May 2017: Ten underprivileged households from Sri Johor Flat, Cheras benefited from Great Vision Charity Association (Persatuan Harapan Mulia) in their ongoing monthly Shopping Buddy Program. The families were invited to a groceries shopping outing at Tesco Extra Cheras. Each family is presented with RM100 cash vouchers to help ease their burden.
During the shopping session, each families were teamed up with a few volunteers before starting to shop for their basic necessities. The volunteers were seen busy helping the families look for groceries items and comparing prices to get the best deals. After the shopping session, the families were invited to a sumptuous luncheon session at the food court of Tesco with the volunteers, before being chauffeured back to their homes.
“The recent Rakan Shopping event has been a really enlightening and eye opening experience. Conversing with the beneficiaries helped me to understand the various groups of people that live in our local community and their lifestyles. It is a great program – it is so fulfilling to see the joy on their faces as they pick out the groceries from Tesco and bring them back home. I’m glad to have been part of a program that has clearly made a direct impact on someone else’s life.” said volunteer Samantha Cheong.
The Shopping Buddy Program is a program conducted by Great Vision Charity Association on the third Saturday of each month, where 10 selected underprivileged families were invited for a groceries shopping session and were chauffeured there by volunteers from the association.
